I went to “Muscle girls” in Ikebukuro. An Australian tourist (hereafter referred to as K) who I was guiding wanted to go to this bar because it is apparently famous in his courtry, so I went with him.
Steps to entering the bar
The bar is located on the first basement floor of a multi-tenant building in Ikebukuro. I found it easily as I went down the stairs and saw the bar name written on the door in large letters. I checked in at the door and then went inside. It was just after opening time, so I was worried that it might not have started yet, but there was no need to worry. When we entered the shop, it was almost full, with many muscular female staff, and the atmosphere was very lively. Moreover, as far as the eye could see, all the customers were traveler from other countries. It was quite an interesting sight.
Entering the bar and Cheers
There was a large oval bar counter on the floor, and customers sat around it. K and I were guided to a seat close to the stage. Some of the menus were in English, and many of the staff could speak English, so K was able to communicate easily without an interpreter. In addition to the drink menu, there was also a menu of event options, and various options were available, such as having the muscle girls (female staff) “slap you”, “kick you” and “squeeze fresh lemon.” Also, it was OK to take photos and videos inside the bar. The muscle girls also said that it was OK to share them on social media without mosaics.
After an explanation of the system, K and I ordered highballs. Then, the muscle girl who had arrived in front of us brought us a highball in a mug with her proud biceps. When it was time to toast, we all yelled loudly so that the whole store could hear it, and all the muscle girls and other customers toasted together!

The show started about 10 minutes after we entered the bar. The muscle girls were doing some serious pole dancing and everyone was dancing to the music, creating a buzz in the bar
Introduction of the muscle girls after the show
After the show, the muscle girls gathered at the front of the stage and were introduced. They greeted each other one by one, and at the end they went around the counter and gave each other high fives.
Asking guests, “Which coutry are you from?”
The muscle girl with the microphone walked around the counter, asking each guest, “Which coutry are you from?” America, Australia, England, and many more. Occasionally, the names of rare Central European countries were mentioned, which made the atmosphere more lively. I was the only Japanese guest that day. When it was my turn to say “Japan!”, the whole bar erupted in excitement. I felt like I was drinking abroad, even though I was in Japan. Another thing that was notable was that there were quite a few female-only groups. From what I remember, it felt like about two-thirds of the guests in the bar were female.
When I asked the muscle girl who was in charge why this bar was so popular with foreigners, she told me that when they live-streamed a show in the bar on a streaming app, it went viral and sparked their popularity with foreigners.
About the fee
This shop has a system where you are charged every 30 minutes. Since I had other plans with K that day, we only stayed for 30 minutes, and the cost was 1,500 yen + consumption tax, so 1,800 JPY per person.
Ikebukuro, Muscle girls. Maybe it’s because they didn’t offer any options, but we had a lot of fun at a very low price. It seems like it’s always lively, and it’s interesting that most of the customers are foreigners. It might be recommended for people who want to have international exchange.
