Detail

My friends and I went to a bar in Shibuya where Japanese is prohibited for an offline meetup! After having a few drinks at a Shibuya izakaya, we headed to our destination bar.

Entering the bar

The bar was located in a multi-tenant building at the back of Shibuya Center Street.

As I got off the elevator, I heard lively chatter coming from the other side of the entrance.

When we entered the bar, there were three female bartenders with foreign-looking faces behind the bar, and Japanese and foreign customers sitting at the seats at the bar.

A female bartender explained the system to us. Male customers are charged a 2,000 JPY per hour cover fee, and when we order a drink, they are charged an additional 500 to 1,000 JPY. After 1 hour, you will be charged 300 JPY per 10 minutes.

After the staff explained how the system worked, we decided to order our drinks and raise a toast.

About the bar staff

Currently, the bar only has female staff. Previously, there was a male student staff, but he gave up on him after he got job, and now the bar only has female staff.

The staff members we communicated with during our stay were below:

Marina:
From U.S. She was like the boss of the bar that day. She exuded the dignity of a native speaker.

Annika:
A 20-year-old girl of half Japanese and half American descent. Her looks and mannerisms were so cute that I almost fell in love with her.

Anna:
She was from the southern part of Brazil. Even though she was from Brazil, she spoke English fluently, like a native speaker. She was wearing clothes that showed off her curves, and all my friends were very interested in her.

During the stay

While we were at the bar, we enjoyed speaking English with the female staff and other customers. I thought it was great that all the staff could speak English like a native speaker.

Not only were the bar staff fluent in English, they were also very attractive women. I bought Annika a drink, and another member bought Anna a drink. They were both super cute โ˜บ๏ธ๏ผˆThe drink made our bill higher ๐Ÿ˜‚๏ผ‰

*A video showing the barโ€™s atmosphere is available at the bottom of the page.

The price

This bar allows groups to pay separately, so that's what we did.

For about an hour and a halfโ€™s stay, including drinks for myself and a girl, I paid 6,300 JPY. Apparently, the drinks for the female staff were quite expensive. The other members who stayed for the same amount of time paid less than 3,000 JPY. It seems quite reasonable if you donโ€™t buy the girls drinks.

โ€œSick!โ€ โ€“ Shibuyaโ€™s bar where Japanese is not permitted. Speaking English with a native speaker for an hour can cost nearly 10,000 JPY at a major English school. Considering that, being able to enjoy speaking English with a native speaker for this price may be quite a bargain!
