"Johannesburg", South Africa's largest city
This summer, I went on a round-the-world trip. After Nigeria in West Africa, I visited Johannesburg in the Republic of South Africa. I think it's famous for its poor security.
The Cityscape
The atmosphere of Johannesburg changes considerably between downtown (the city center) and uptown (the suburbs away from the center). Downtown is now entirely a black residential area, and the security situation is not very good, so it is generally recommended that travelers do not enter the area on foot. the area on foot.
Uptown, on the other hand, is quite safe, and it felt like an upscale residential area in America. I stayed in an area called Sandton, which is located in Uptown, and from my experience, it seemed like it would be fine for foreign travelers to go out alone.

โ The cleanliness and modernity were comparable to those in Western countries.

"Hillbrow", the heart of downtown
Perhaps because it was rush hour after work, there were more people than I expected and it didn't feel too dangerous, but as far as the eye could see there were only black residents and no white people or foreign tourists. โ Ponte Tower We went up to the entrance of the apartment building, but it didn't feel that dangerous, and I could see people who appeared to be residents entering the premises. "Soweto", a black residential area during apartheid
This area was designated a black residential area during the apartheid era, and many black residents still live there today. My local guide T and driver were also from the area, and they referred to the area as "sweet home" with nostalgia as they showed us around. They showed us around.
They also tookmes to places reminiscent of the apartheid era, such as Nelson Mandela's house and a memorial to a young man who lost his life during the riots. Art such as paintings and monuments were dotted along the city's walls and streets, and I could really feel the energy of young artists.

โ There were slums on the outskirts of Soweto, and it seems that there are still people living in poverty.
Nightlife in Johannesburg
It's not a place that foreigners generally go out and have fun, but because I was with a local guide, I was able to have fun without encountering any danger. I'll post individual reports as they become available.
